Today has been an exciting one for lovers of Van Gogh― five of the artist’s famous sunflower paintings have been united in a virtual exhibition via Facebook Live.
The sunflower paintings have never been in the same space (assuming virtual spaces count) since Van Gogh’s sister-in-law Jo Bonger dispersed them in the early 1900s.
Each broadcast is about fifteen minutes long and features a curator from each of the museums where the five sunflower paintings are housed. (The museums are the National Gallery in London, Neue Pinakothek in Munich, Philadelphia Museum of Art in Philadelphia, Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, and the Sompo Museum in Tokyo.)
Also featured in the broadcasts will be Willem van Gogh, the great grandson of Van Gogh’s brother Theo.
The next broadcast will be available here on the Van Gogh Museum’s Facebook page, where you can also watch recordings of the previous broadcasts.
