Yesterday, Reuters announced that it will be partnering with the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) to offer two new scholarships worth more than $40,000 to NABJ members applying to graduate journalism programs at Columbia or New York University.
The scholarships will be more than just money―recipients will be trained in the Reuters New York newsroom and have the option to intern with Reuters upon graduation.
“These scholarships for graduate training at Columbia University and NYU offer us an exciting opportunity to support NABJ members and help promote diversity in journalism, an issue of critical importance to Reuters and to the industry as a whole,” said Reuters Editor-in-Chief Stephen J. Adler.
NABJ President Sarah Glover agrees with Adler’s thoughts: “NABJ and Reuters collaborative efforts are the result of proactive attempts to positively impact our industry by addressing diversity issues that plague our newsrooms.”
